LOW VISION SPECIALISTS OF MARYLAND & VIRGINIA
ANNOUNCES NEW CORPORATE LOW VISION DIVISION

Program supports workforce accessibility initiatives for those
who are low vision or blind.

Timonium, MD – September 1st, 2017:

Low Vision Specialists of MD & VA (LVS) has announced the creation of a new corporate low vision division to support the workforce accessibility initiatives of forward-thinking corporations and businesses. The LVS corporate low vision division helps companies establish internal programs that facilitate and promote the hiring of talented, skilled individuals who are visually impaired.

The U.S. Census Bureau* says that one in five people in the U.S. has a disability. “Forty-one percent of those age 21 to 64 with any disability were employed, compared with 79 percent of those with no disability.” The LVS corporate low vision division was established to help corporations address that gaping inequality and expand their workforce with low vision and legally blind employees.

The LVS corporate low vision division works with corporate human resource departments and other internal employee assistance programs to make advanced wearable technology available to their employees. Whether current employees have been diagnosed with eye diseases or new employees are low vision or legally blind, advanced medical devices make it possible for them to see, read, use computers and adapt to the work environment.

Advanced medical devices, called “wearable technology” enhance vision for those who suffer with a number of degenerative eye diseases including macular degeneration, Stargardt’s Disease, Diabetic Retinopathy, Albinism, and Retinis Pigmentosa. The devices are worn as eyeglasses or virtual reality-type goggles and improve contrast, central vision, and magnification.

LVS is a leader in providing disruptive technologies to its low vision and legally blind patients. Now it is making these advancements available to corporations to assist them in an explosive hiring expansion of those who are low vision or legally blind. Some of the wearable technology that LVS offers includes:

  1. IrisVision: A device worn as glasses that uses a 16 MP camera, a screen that displays 10X more pixels per inch than an HD TV, a 70° field of view, and adjustable settings including contrast, ambient levels, interpupilar distance, magnification, field of vision and more.
  2. eSight allows allows the image to move quickly, adjusting pixels along the way, as the user moves between indoor and outdoor activities.  eSight combines a camera, display technology, and advanced computing to deliver real-time video that enables sight.
