Advanced vision care — in the comfort of home
Remember when doctors made house calls? For many patients, that level of personalized care is not a luxury—it’s a necessity. We provide in-home eye care anywhere in Maryland and Virginia, offering both comprehensive routine eye exams and advanced low vision evaluations in private homes, senior living communities, and assisted living residences. Before any visit is scheduled, we provide a complimentary record review and a personal phone consultation with the doctor to determine whether a house call is clinically appropriate and which type of evaluation will be most beneficial.

Our goal is simple: to deliver the same high-level, thorough eye care you would receive in our office—without the physical, emotional, or logistical burden of travel. House calls also help relieve the stress and anxiety of transporting a sick or fragile loved one to the doctor.
Every house call begins with a thoughtful, no-pressure screening process. Prior to scheduling, patients (or caregivers) send relevant eye and medical records from the past 1–3 years. The doctor personally reviews these records and then schedules a complimentary phone consultation. During this call, the doctor discusses the patient’s visual concerns, goals, and overall health, answers questions, and determines whether a Comprehensive Eye Exam or an Advanced Low Vision Evaluation is the most appropriate next step.
Who Benefits from House Call Eye Care? House calls are ideal for patients who:
- Have difficulty traveling due to mobility, neurological, or medical conditions
- Live in assisted living or senior living communities
- Experience vision loss that makes transportation unsafe or overwhelming
- Need more time, attention, and individualized care than a standard office visit allows
- Would benefit from advanced low vision solutions evaluated in their real-world environment
Comprehensive Eye Exam — House Call
Our Comprehensive Eye Exam House Call brings the doctor and specialized portable equipment directly to the patient’s residence anywhere in Maryland or Virginia. This visit is appropriate for patients who need a full routine eye examination, updated eyeglass prescriptions, and ongoing monitoring of eye health.
Before scheduling, we complete a complimentary record review and doctor phone consultation to confirm that a comprehensive house call exam is appropriate for the patient’s needs.
What the Exam Includes
- Evaluation of the front of the eye (cornea, lens, ocular surface)
- Examination of the back of the eye (retina and optic nerve)
- Assessment of visual acuity and functional vision
- Prescription analysis and refinement
- Review of current glasses and visual complaints
- Frame selection and eyeglass guidance, when appropriate
If new glasses are recommended, patients may choose to have eyewear fabricated through our office or fill the prescription wherever they prefer.
Advanced Low Vision House Call
For patients with significant vision loss, a standard eye exam is often not enough. Our Low Vision House Call is a two-hour, in-depth evaluation designed
for patients who struggle with everyday tasks despite wearing glasses and want to understand what is realistically possible for their vision.
Every low vision house call begins with a complimentary record review and a personal phone consultation with the doctor. This ensures that the visit is appropriate, expectations are clear, and the evaluation is tailored to the patient’s goals before the doctor arrives.
This Visit Focuses on Function, Not Just Numbers
Rather than simply measuring eyesight on a chart, the doctor works to understand what the patient wants and needs to see, what they can currently see, and how much vision is required to accomplish specific daily activities.
Common Vision Goals
- Reading books, mail, and medications
- Watching television
- Recognizing faces
- Using phones, tablets, or computers
- Playing games, hobbies, or crafts
- Navigating safely at home
Customized Optical System Design — Done in the Home
- Determine the patient’s current functional vision
- Identify the visual demands of each desired activity
- Calculate the magnification and optical strategy required
- Design and build prototypes of customized optical systems on-site
These are not simple magnifiers. They are customized, hands-free optical systems, including specialized telescope and microscope glasses, engineered specifically for the patient’s eyes, posture, and daily needs.
The most important part: Patients see the results immediately. Before any decision is made, they experience what improved vision feels like, what tasks become possible, and what limitations still remain.
Care That Respects the Patient’s Reality
Low vision care cannot be rushed or standardized. That is why our house call services are unhurried, highly individualized, and focused on real-world outcomes.
Recent eye exams and relevant medical records are required. All care is delivered in person when clinically appropriate.
We provide in-home eye care throughout the entire states of Maryland and Virginia, including urban, suburban, and rural areas.
