Thankful for our patients and the ability to help restore sight-
reflections on years in practice

Welcome to our blog. We are excited about its launch and the opportunity to talk about the issues and scientific advances that are important to those suffering with low vision. Many of our patients- the majority really- have been told, “I’m sorry, nothing more can be done to improve your sight.” We don’t accept that. Our patients are the proof. They have incredible stories and we want to share them here, (in addition to their testimonials on our website).

We also want you to know about the clinical and scientific advances being made in vision improvement. Medical devices are changing medicine at a rapid rate, and helping us to enhance sight for those who previously thought it was an impossible dream. Microscopic, telescopic and electronic glasses are allowing people to do the simple, yet essential things in life; clearly see faces, drive, pursue hobbies and crafts, read and watch television. We don’t think that’s asking too much, and we think that every medical advance should be brought to bear on returning that level of functional vision.

As we thought about this first blog, we reflected on the holidays and the fact that first and foremost we are thankful for our patients. We may bring the medical knowledge to the table but they bring the courage.

There are many patient stories. They are inspirational human beings who live life despite suffering with diabetic retinopathy, retinitis pigmentosa, cataracts, glaucoma, cone-rod dystrophy and other vision impairing diseases. We will share their experiences with you over the coming months and the ways in which medicine has helped to enhance their vision.
For now we want to say thank you to all our patients and express our gratitude for the opportunity to restore functional sight for life’s important things. That is the work that motivates us and drives us in our daily practice.

Stay tuned. There is a lot more to talk about.
